Steve Poleskie

1938-2019

American (North American) (Pringle(Luzerne, Pennsylvania, United States))

He began his career as an Abstract Expressionist painter in New York from 1961. From 1963-1968 he owned and operated Chiron Press, New York City's first fine-art screen-printing shop, where he worked with Andy Warhol, Robert Rauschenberg, Roy Lichtenstein, and Alex Katz. He later turned to skywriting to create a hybrid work of drawing and performance, using customized biplanes to stage “Aerial Theater,” and eventually mostly ceasing to create studio-based art. After he stopped flying in 1998, he wrote novels, and, in 2004, he made and exhibited photographs.
